Youthful, Healthy and Beautiful Skin in Four Steps – Step 2: Exfoliation

Category: Health,cosmetics,cream,exfoliation,men,spa products,thermal mud — September 1st, 2010

As we continue with our mini-series on skin care habits to help your skin look youthful and beautiful, today we will focus on exfoliation.

As we mentioned in previous last blog, although daily cleansing is very important, it doesn’t get rid of dead skin cells and debris accumulated in the skin’s pores. That’s why you should exfoliate at least once a week to deeply cleanse your pores.

To begin exfoliating, you need to start with an exfoliating agent, like a natural thermal mud based product or a good quality scrub cream. These types of products pull residues away from the skin without damaging tissues. Some formulations also have nourishing properties, which demand longer application times, like mud masks. These types of exfoliates must remain on the face at least 15 minutes, allowing the water within their formulation to deeply penetrate the skin’s pores. Alternatives to masks are scrubs and peelings, which also help nourish the skin, depending on their formulation.

All exfoliating products require that you rinse them off with warm water. Most products come with a sponge or a rag that you can use to assist you. To get the most of the products, it is important to follow each product’s directions.

After rinsing the mask, scrub or peeling, you will feel that your pores open up. To enhance the effect of exfoliation, some skin care experts recommend steaming your face.

Steaming can be done at home by filling your sink with hot water and wrapping your head in a towel, leaving the face exposed. Place your face right above the hot water and feel the steam hit your face for about five minutes. Steaming helps to further open the pores, which will help your skin absorb the moisture and nutrients from your moisturizing cream.

On Friday’s blog we’ll discuss the third step to beautiful, healthy and youthful skin: nourishing. Stay tuned!
