On Wednesday we went over some winter weather workouts that you can do despite the chilly temperatures. Today we’d like to discuss taking care of your skin before, after and during these workouts. Remember, the colder temperatures drastically affect your skin. Combine this with sweating and coming in and out of the gym and your skin is the one getting a real workout.
Here are some tips to help keep your skin healthy while working out this winter:
- Use a neutral soap/gel when you shower. If you work out, you may be taking more than one shower a day. Using a good quality, neutral soap will help you keep your skin’s natural sebum, which helps keeps your skin naturally hydrated.
- Moisturize your face and body after showering. This will help your skin retrieve water and nutrients lost through sweat. Applying a day cream immediately after working out will also keep your skin flexible and strong.
- Use a thermal water spray. These sprays are great at boosting the moisturizing effects of the creams or lotions you are using. Keep one in your gym bag and apply a quick mist as soon as you are done moisturizing or before you head outside.
- Exfoliate once a week. When you regularly workout your pores eliminate more toxins through sweat. This is good for your health, but it also can lead to your pores clogging. Exfoliating once a week will help keep your pores clean.
- Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Drink water before, during and after your routine. Your skin doesn’t just get moisturized through creams and lotions. It also naturally moisturizes through water intake. Your body needs to recover the water it loses when you workout.
Follow these tips and your body and skin will look terrific all winter long.
